Frontier offers to take part on an upcoming Community Goal regarding the Colonia region and establishing the new '2nd bubble'. Frontier set up a page on which Commanders can sign up for creating a new minor faction which is going to race up in Community Gaols to come like recent Dangerous Games, where Juri Grom from EG-Pilots won and became the 11th super power there after.
So get on the Frontier Application page(docs.google.com) to name a not yet excisting minor faction, your ingame Commanders tag and your email address!

I was curious about the new events coming into ships radio coms as sort of mission offers. while some are pretty annoying like altering missions destinations which i hate most to weird offers to complete missions on specific time to get a bonus (mostly unrealitic time spans).Read more >

Time for yet another flurry of activity as pilots realise they need to finish their weekly Powerplay activities. I am a good 200 points behind just holding onto rank 3, let alone approaching rank 4. I also need to use my nominations to help make sure the right systems get developed.

Apparently, as of this very blog post, I have now edited this wiki every day for 60 days. I am not sure if that makes me dedicated or just a little obsessive, but posting this as my first edit of day 60 (and therefore the action which earns the achievement) seemed amusing to me.Read more >
Having a Type-6 Transporter makes PowerPlay easier, but even maintaining my current rank requires four full trips. To reach rank 4, I need another eight on top of that. Sadly, my funds are a little low. My wages for the last cycle (when I was rank 2) were only 500,000 CR, so I can't even fast-track many loads of materials.
Maybe I should have waited until I was a little more well-off before starting power-play, but I needed something to draw me back in.Read more >

This morning, I achieved rank 3 with Aisling Duval.
Wait... That sounds dirty...
In service to Her Royal Highness, Princess Aisling Duval, I have delivered certain pamphlets and other materials to systems which may benefit from her influence. For my work here, I have been recognised as a supporter of some note.
Can I make rank 4 by next week? I hope so. 5-Million a week sounds attractive...Read more >
So I made three planetary landings spent many hours driving around and scooped up a load of materials. I collected enough basic materials to be supplied with any kind of basic ammunition refill, SRV refuel and repair, one standard FSD boost and a few cargo containers.
The time I had taken to find just one standard FSD boost was so high (at least six hours) it just wasn't worth looking for it.
So I thought about what the developers said about realism.
On the three planets that I had visited, all of which were High Metal content worlds I had been bombing around on relatively good terrain.

Bam, most of the guns in Elite. All of these are uploaded on the wikia in 4k, named:
wpn_c%class%_%type%.png (e.g. wpn_c3_plasma.png)
Classes go from 1 to 4, types are as follows:
- multi (-cannon)
- plasma (accelerator)
- laser (burst and pulse use the same model)
- rail (gun)
- frag (mentation cannon)
- mine (launcher)
- mining (laser)

Powerplay has given me a purpose, it seems. I now look at Elite and see something I can do, immediate goals to achieve. I like the open-ended nature of Elite, but the grind was getting me down.
Ferrying goods for fortification meant collecting my Cobra and I did notice that after weeks in an Eagle, that was painful. The Yaw speed on a Cobra is almost non-existent, even its roll and pitch are dire, but I escaped three interdictions just by submitting and then hitting afterburners. It can't turn, but it can't half flee...
And now I have my first Type-6 Transporter. One flight was all it took to convince me of a docking computer's value...Read more >
In the CQC Championship, as you rank up you unlock more loadouts and more modules for those loadouts. I was rank 9 or so when I started revamping the CQC Loadout pages. Annoyingly, you can't see the rank required for things you've already unlocked.
If someone who hasn't yet ranked up too far could submit the missing details, either as a comment on this blog post (with screenshots if you don't want to type it out) or by editing the appropriate articles, that would be very helpful.
For the Loadouts overview we are currently lacking what rank the first Sidewinder, Eagle, and Imperial Fighter loadouts are unlocked at. This can be seen on the Ship Select screen (from the main menu click Start → CQC Championship → Ship Select.)

When I started to play Elite, I was hooked. I mean, I shut the curtains and sat there in the dark with Elite on my big TV. I was about as immersed as I could get without fixing my surround-sound (a project for later) and maybe investing in a HOTAS system. I was Nikolai Albinus, newbie pilot and wannabe pirate-hunter. I traded up to a Cobra, made some money, invested it in a fully-upgraded Eagle, then... I don't know, I think the story ended.
Some time around when Horizons hit, the illusion kind of collapsed and I found myself faced with a Skinner box situation. I was no longer a space-fighter pilot, I was a player repeating a task so that I could earn some more Imperial approval, some more combat rank, a little more virtual money.

There's a Kotaku article doing the rounds right now about Elite - The Problem And Pleasure With Elite Dangerous Is That It's Lonely - and I think they hit the nail on the head. Sometimes, I feel like I am setting out on a grand adventure with just my trusty ship and my wits; sometimes, when I'm sitting at a station to top up my fuel and check for missions, it feels like some kind of motorway service station on the M1 as I drive from some grey part of London to some Grey part of... I don't know, Manchester maybe.
Half the time, I'm in Solo anyway. I am not the most social of pilots and circling the entrance of a Coriolis station waiting for another player to leave so I can have their landing pad fills me with as much joy as filling in my tax…Read more >

Today marks the 30th day of playing Elite Dangerous. Amusingly, it was an early xmas present bought one month early to the day. I look back and I am kind of glad it was early. Junga 1 is a marvellous planet indeed. With two huge craters and a perfect natural racetrack for SRVs on the other side, less than 10 lightseconds from the star and with a lot of resources to mine it seems like a perfect planet to screw around on. Untill you find yourself buried 11 clicks under the ground, that is.
It was only this morning that I managed to put my finger on why I have only been playing in short bursts recently. I'd be sitting down to play and then I'd quit after a half-hour or less. Sometimes, I was getting as far as checking the bulletin board and then logging back out.
Part of the issue is that I used to play with my dad, the man who introduced me to Elite back in the days of the BBC B. Flying in a wing is somehow more exciting than flying alone. My brother was a backer, so he'd been playing since launch, while I only started last month. I think he got a little bored before I even got going and so we have never played at the same time.
The other issue is that the latest patch added new missions and I think they have thinned out the m…Read more >
It's been two days since Elite updated and after a tense day off where I was upset that I didn't get to play (though I did manage to finish watching Jessica Jones on Netflix, so the day was not a complete bust) I have still not got around to spending more than five minutes logged in at a time. Why can my imperial cutter hold 720 TONS of cargo but only 90 rounds of ammunition for a Fragment cannon. The cutter is ofically the worst combat ship i have ever flown that wasnt a type class hauler. Though it does hold a LOT of cargo and by god is it fast for its size. I made 2.1 million in one trade run without any missions. it was simply buy comodity from location A and sell to location B took about 10 minutes and i made 2 million. Still im disapointed. You know what I find a bit of a mixed bag? Time limits on contracts...
When someone gives me 36 minutes to deliver urgent data, I can do that. I drop everything and I rush over, maybe picking up some trade goods if I know a good trade. I know that this contract is urgent, I know I cannot do anything else at the same time. I know where I stand and I know I can do it quickly.
When I have a week to kill 15 pirates in a nearby system, I'll take that mission even if I just sit on it. It's something to do when I am in the area. I know I have time and even a day away from the PC is not going to be a major issue. These long-term ones all seem to be combat, so it's fairly easy to park myself at a waypoint or hunt Unidentified Signal Sources. I know I…Read more >
Faction is hard. Continually completing missions for the Empire finally paid off and I am now a serf in the Imperial Navy. It's not a very prestigious title and comes with no great rewards, but it's one step up the ladder and one rank from being able to buy an Imperial Courier. Is it worth buying? Will I buy it just because I can?
Also, despite grinding Empire faction, I seem to have reached the threshold for Federal Navy to take an interest. They want me as a recruit. It might be nice to visit Sol, but the Federation ships don't do it for me...Read more >
Having played for a fortnight, I suppose it's time I looked at some of the tools. I had a basic spreadsheet where I stored data for commodities when I started, but I stopped using it about the time I encountered rare commodities (much more predictable and much more profitable when you only have a small ship) and never went back.
Recently, I have been bounty-hunting in my Eagle Mk. II and that's about as profitable as rare trading in my Cobra Mk. III, but a lot more fun. Maybe I will upgrade to a better trader and do some hauling later, but I am still having so much fun killing bigger ships in my tiny fighter. I am travelling, grinding Imperial faction and generally seeing what the bulletin boards around Tangaroa/Sovica have to offer.

Figured out that the Lua Infoboxbuilder that Wikia offers actually has a value type called "split". Figured it out looking through the code of Infoboxbuilder and saw it, I wouldn't have found it anywhere else as it's not mentioned that much anywhere else nor is it on the documentation.
I put up an example on User:SpyTec/Template:Infoboxbuilder Split. More or less, it allows us to have two colums, where the first row is the labels rather than first column. The other rows below it are the values. It should be able to handle Methods as well for custom modules, but not yet tested.
With this we can probably produce some interesting infoboxes, will experiment more with Lua and see if we can get some custom infobox builder to collapse whole section…Read more >

Basically I suggest changing the shipinfobox template so the max cargo capacity would consist of two numbers: maximum total and maximum with a smallest possible shield generator. Kinda like the Python page has right now, but with a C3 shield gen.

Hello everyone, I'm new to the wiki and i was a bit frustrated about the lack of information on how players were supposed to farm merits. I have not had much chance to play today, so I'll just share an amusing image from yesterday.Read more >
I've been playing for a week and I have racked up quite a few starport landings, but today came as a surprise. After a week of grey, dimly-lit stations with a very utilitarian feel, I docked at Sovica in the Tangaroa system to see palm trees and parks, lots of white and red. This is how I always expected the Empire to look (it's an Imperial-aligned station) and it did not disappoint.
I know it's just a minor reskin of a typical Orbis station, but it made me happy to see it.Read more >
Well that was a surprise. Just lost about 200k in bounties and 50k for my ship because there are apparently NPC pirates flying Federal Gunships with turrets now...
I've been caught out by Anacondas and the occasional well-flown Cobra, but that Federal Gunship was a new (and unwanted) one on me. He followed me right up to the station, spouting threats, so I logged out.Read more >
I am now an Outsider with the Empire, even if it took a tiny bit of work. Suddenly, running courier missions, I went from neutral to friendly with one of the stations (it now lights up a delightful green instead of the previous orange) and got four different advancement missions offered to me.
Now, as a loyal subject of the Empire, maybe I should upgrade my wardrobe to suit my newfound status.Read more >
I've been having a bit of a mixed experience killing pirates and other fugitives today.
On the one hand, the Eagle is a great ship for combat. With all of the upgrades I have installed, I have only had one close call and that was against a trio of (NPC) Vipers; I got one, but had to run before I could finish the second. It's been fun, mostly.
The issue is that I am really not gaining ranks too fast. I've reached Merchant rank and even my explorer is Mostly Aimless + 85%, but Combat is really taking a lot of kills to rank up. I've also noticed that while the Eagle is good against Cobras, there are too many pirates in Eagles who skip out of my gunsights if I am not careful.
Still, I will keep trying...Read more >
I have been trading between the systems near Wolf 1301 and the ones near Lave for a couple of days and I have picked up a few things.
- There are some very hot stars you end up warping in next to
- I need to upgrade my FSD to A-rating if I keep doing this
- Leestian Evil Juice is illicit cargo in a lot of places you will travel through, which can really be an issue if you are not expecting to become an accidental smuggler
- Any route with 30+ jumps gets far more tedious when your jump times go from under ten seconds to over thirty
- Trying to buy a Class 4 FSD is harder than it sounds, especially 4A
- Setting your throttle to 75% seems to help with the overshooting issue
The original Sidewinder we all start with is a fairly versatile ship. The hold is a little small and it's not really a combat ship, but it lets you get started with your trading and fighting as long as you are patient with the first and careful with the second. I traded mine in for a Cobra Mk. III before too long, but there was also one other ship I wanted to take a look at.
The Eagle is, for now, the most manoeuvrable ship in the game. It's hardly a heavy weapons platform, but it does serve as one of the earliest examples of a dedicated fighter. You can pick one up for 44,000 CR, but mine is already valued at about 1-Million CR thanks to the upgrades it has. I had planned to use it as a cheap fighter to practice combat which I would not wo…Read more >

Well, I finally got hold of an Adder this morning. I thought it was an ugly ship the first time I laid eyes on it, but it let me move on to trading rare commodities and that's not nothing. Sadly, it was as much fun to fly as to look at. After all that time in a Sidewinder, I missed being able to look up. The visibility is awful, with struts and panels and a roof in the way; I like to look up when lining up with stations, so it got far harder to dock with the larger stations.
One quick round of rares from Altair and a couple of nearby stations, then on to Lave. It was long and slow, stopping every few systems for fuel, but I made it, earning another 400,000 CR which went on a Cobra Mk. III and a fuel scoop . It's been almost 30 years since I…Read more >
It's after 1am and I'm still comparing the Eagle and the Adder because I am not sure if I want something small and fast to go claim some bounties or just to get started with trading. Finally broke 100k, so I really should upgrade my Sidewinder to something more profitable. I'm also looking at the rare commodities and wondering if it's worth relocating to Lave.

So as I've not been able to edit the wiki that much lately, been mostly focusing on other things, I've not really had a time to do this properly. But I figured this is as good time as any.
As of right now, we haven't set out any guidelines on how articles should be structured, nor have we set up any guidelines on what pages should consist of. So I would like to have a discussion with avid editors and visitors at some point on what is good and what is bad, for us to eventually create articles about it. I'd think that we should have this discussion on the forum in a short while, and to which I recommend people to come up with small drafts (just to get a general idea of what it should contain, doesn't have to be gramatically or structurally co…
