The Federal Gunship is a support combat ship introduced in the CQC Update. As most of ships built by Core Dynamics it has a bulky design with the cockpit located at the very nose of the ship. It is a faction-specific ship, requiring a rank of Ensign with the Federation to purchase.
The Federal Gunship came from the desire for a more supporting role in operations utilising the standard Dropship frame. It's primary role is in fire support and is tougher and also supports higher rated modules making it more versatile.

While being one of the slowest ships, the Gunship is very heavily armoured and features seven weapon hardpoints (two small, four medium and one large hardpoint), giving pilots an ability to get creative with their weapon loadouts. It has four utility mounts. It's also one of the few ships in the game that is capable of equipping a fighter hangar, and is the only medium-sized ship besides the Keelback with that ability.
The Gunship doesn't have great maneuverability - it is let down by slow pitching speed, however its main and reverse drives are very powerful, capable of accelerating or slowing the ship down quickly.
It features a relatively large class 6 Power Plant and an oversized class 7 Power Distributor. The class 5 FSD is less than sufficient for a ship of this mass and size, which gives the Gunship one of the shortest jump ranges. Internal compartments are large (two class 6 and a single class 5), but scarce: with just five compartments in total outfitting options are restricted compared to the Assault Ship and the Dropship. The drawback of it's small number of internal compartments has been slightly offset by the addition of 3 Military Compartments (the most of any ship) in the 2.2 update.
Weapon hardpoints are located as follows: a single large and two medium hardpoints on the bottom of the ship about a third of the length from the front; two medium hardpoints in the bumpers on either side of the cockpit; and two small hardpoints on top of the ship next to the heat vents.
